[Meade Building, Elevator lobby]
As she walks in the Meade building, she catches a glimpse of a girl wearing slippers. She feels chills all the way down her spine.
She just stops dead and stares at her. The girl notices her and runs away, probably hiding in the restroom.

"Lord why?" she whispers, rolling her eyes.

She comes nearer the elevator and waits for it.

5th floor. 4th floor. 3rd floor.

She snorts.

2nd floor.
1st floor.

The doors open and she gets in, hoping to remain alone.

Betty had one helluva headache. She was excited about being back at Meade publications, but somewhat apprehensive about starting over at Player magazine. MODE had been horrid. Well, wait. That wasn't exactly true... some of the people had been horrid, but the experience had been fairly awesome. Almost every day she had learned something new, and everything now swam in her head- everything pulling together to form the *imaginary trumpets* New And Improved Betty Suarez.

No more taking crap from people. If she had learned anything on her vacation, it was that she could do anything she put her mind to.

Betty sighed and pushed the button for the elevator. She heard a ding... and plastered her trademark grin on her face. Maybe it would be Daniel. Maybe Christina. She had SO much to tell them!

[Mode Building, Elevator]
She sees a spot of colour and understand immediately who she is.
Betty Suarez, 3 feets away, awaiting the other elevator.
I wonder if she knows already.
She stops the doors of the elevator when they're about to close and calls her out.

"Betty! Welcome back."

Oh my God, it was so fake I couldn't believe it myself.

She stands there, waiting for her to come into the elevator.

[MODE building, elevator]

"Betty! Welcome back."

Betty turned quickly, her long hair fluttering around her body.

When she saw The Slater (okay, so she would never be able to call her that to her face, but it was a title... a nickname that rang out in her head whenever she saw her.) at the elevator, framed by the almost closed doors.

Betty saw the doors spring back, showing more and more of the statuesque woman's body.

Her brilliant smile froze a little. Her mind gave a funny little squirm, as a mouse's must do before the hawk swoops down upon it.

"Good morning!"

She pushed one strand of hair behind her hair and ran the palms of her hands up and down the bright green, fuchsia, and orange paisley print of her skirt. Betty ducked thought the elevator door's opening and nodded politely at Wilhelmina.

Wilhelmina watches her carefully. She's nervous, and surprised.
Well, she wasn't going to be for much longer, after all.

She pushes the button for the 12th floor, Mode's floor.
"Oh, I had quite forgotten"

She smiles and pushes the button for the 9th floor.

"I will get used to it" she says, still with the same smug smile "So, how do you feel about Player magazine?"

Wilhelmina's sure sge still doesn't know a thing. That is why she's enjoying this so much, actually.

Betty can't hide the small twitch of her lips that betrays how she feels about

Betty can't hide the small twitch of her lips that betrays how she feels about <Player and all it represents.

"Oh, I'm excited for the opportunity!" She says instead. "And It's nice to see Daniel again. I'm hoping that now I can have more responsibility."

Betty tilted her head towards Wilhelmina, thinking.

"You know, it just occurred to me that you yourself worked your way up from being Ms. Sommers' assistant to where you are now. I know you've worked really hard, and I don't think I've every told you how admirable I find that." She smiled sincerely.

There. Hopefully that will keep her from being horrible for awhile. I mean, how long can this elevator ride BE anyway??

Wilhelmina feels her own smile fade away slowly., and she knows she must not seem very friendly in that moment.

She looked straight ahead, her eyes fixed upon the metallic doors.

"I was never a simple assistant, Betty" she says, cold "It takes ambition, a lot of ambition, to climb the ladder the way I did. It also takes an incredible strength. And you'll find out good people do not usually make it. Unless you're at Player, of course" she adds, smiling again "In that case, I think even Amanda could be an editor"

She keeps staring at her.

"Is that what you really want? When I met you, I thought you wanted something more. Well, maybe not in the fashion industry, considering how you match that red bag with those yellow boots. But at least, something different from motorbikes and...Breasts" she asks, her voice dripping with disgust.

Betty tries not to let her smile turn into a grimace. She let off a small sigh of releif when the bell rang, signaling her floor.

Thank goodness.

"Well, you have a good morning, Wilihelmina." She said, smiling brightly. She was ready to start her day, see Daniel, and begin her new position. Not snark with Mz. Wilhelmina Slater.

Suzuki St. Pierre adjusted his clothes and smiled at the camera. As the cameramen reached one in his countdown, Suzuki beamed and said,

"Good morning, fashionistas! This is Suzuki St. Pierre and I have many things to say about the new turn of events in the Meade/Slater saga. As you all know, Wilhelmina Slater is the new Editor-in-Chief of MODE magazine. Rumors indicate a better MODE. MODE hits newsstands next week, brace yourselves! I know I will."
